Director of Business Development, Schomp Automotive
Michael Dunlap is Director of Business Development at the Schomp Automotive Group in Denver, Colorado, and co-owner of Mercedes-Benz of Farmington in Farmington, Utah. He joined the Denver-based company in 2014.
Dunlap was instrumental in planning, developing and successfully opening three new Schomp facilities in 2016: Schomp Honda and Schomp MINI in Colorado (which joined Schomp BMW of Highlands Ranch on its campus), and Mercedes-Benz of Farmington in suburban Salt Lake City. This represented a major expansion for the Schomp Automotive Group, a fourth-generation, family-owned business that has operated for 105 years including 76 years in the Denver area. Dunlap oversees business development, marketing and corporate training for the Schomp dealerships.
Hireology Board Member Dale Pollak introduced Dunlap to Hireology in 2014. The acquaintance grew into a useful partnership as the Schomp Group built and opened its Mercedes-Benz dealership. The facility opened on an accelerated timeline and all hiring was handled successfully through the Hireology platform.
Implementing new business practices is a longstanding theme running through Dunlap’s career in the automotive industry. He worked in automotive public relations and marketing at the agency level before migrating to regional marketing and sales for BMW of North America.
Dunlap has built a wide-ranging network of community contacts. He is vice-chairman of the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association Legislative Action Committee. His experience and perspective from both manufacturers’ and dealers’ perspectives helped guide CADA to some significant legislative successes in the Colorado General Assembly’s 2017 session.
Dunlap is married to Abigail and they have three children. The family enjoys traveling and exploring the Rocky Mountains, including snowboarding in the winter and fly-fishing in the summer.
